Making perimenopause personal, not prescriptive, the integrative approach.

Your perimenopause is unique, and your approach should be too.

My clients are often surprised by the lack of ‘telling’ I do.

There is SO much information ‘out there’ - the perfect diet, the perfect workout, the 5 steps to lose your meno-belly, the supplement that will cure your brain fog and return your energy.

It feels like there should be an easy solution to your exhaustion and overwhelm.

Listening to your experience, your story is the first step of working with me. And it can be emotional. Having the space to to tell your story and have your experience of perimenopause, of midlife, of existing in a female body in a masculine oriented world validated feels powerful.

Because we are all individuals. Our experience of life, hormones, health, up to and including perimenopause all play a part in our wellbeing.

Perimenopause is a personal experience, this transition moment has an interplay with our stress levels, our emotional resilience, our current health conditions, especially autoimmune conditions, and our self perception when it comes to midlife.

It impacts all women differently - some experience no issues at all, whereas for some it is physically and emotionally devastating. Some of us fall into the middle.

It’s really important that we allow our experience to be valid.  And that we don’t allow our dreams and goals to be sidelined either.

It’s ok if it’s not as bad as your bestie. It’s not a failure if you’re really struggling.

I’ve been learning about it for 12 years, and can still find myself surprised by my own reaction to this phase of life.

And THIS is why being able to explore what’s going on in your whole life is important.

Making our health a priority in perimenopause should be a no-brainer. We are losing the protective benefits to brain, body, bones, and heart that oestrogen and progesterone deliver. AND it’s also a peak moment in life when career, family caring needs, and other goals can feel like the only priority.

This conflict between our hormonal change and our life demands can lead us to search for a magic, simple solution. I know, from my clients rattling with supplements how tempting that is.

When you work with me I give you the space to look at the whole picture of life now, and what has led you here. And where you’d like to be 20 years from now too. Not just health, but relationships, purpose, values, perceptions, and more.

And when you make decisions from this place of self knowledge it’s powerful and lasting.

I remember when I was a personal trainer I would work with clients to create a positive relationship with exercise, not a perfect workout. I recently bumped into someone who I worked with nearly a decade ago to help her start running. As a result of our work together she started attending Parkruns, and has done over 270 parkruns all over the country since then! She wanted to run, but discovered community, and joy as a result.

I had a client a few years ago who was exhausted all the time but wanted to start doing more exercise. She thought she just needed more sleep, but no matter how much she slept she couldn’t catch up. We realised that she just had no space in her day for herself - from when she woke up to when she went to bed she was caring for her young child, her husband with a health condition, her clients in the workplace. So she started by finding moments to herself. 5 minutes to sit and sip her coffee in silence in the morning. Blocking her diary one afternoon a week so she could catch up on her work admin rather than say yes to another meeting and end up bringing the work home with her.

Simple strategies that gave her the space to breathe, feel calmer, and find her own solutions. She now cycles to the office a few days a week, and has restructured her working week.
