Where do you start with menopause?

There’s no one-size-fits all solution to the impact of menopause

And that’s a good thing.

We’re all different, our life experience to date, our childhood experiences, where we live, whether we have kids, our stress levels, our access to nutritious food, our time and availability.

Our symptoms and the stresses of midlife will all be subtly different.

For some women HRT can be a game-changer and solve everything.

For others HRT plus other support is what we all want.

Some women don’t respond well to HRT. Some don’t want to take it.

So why would I tell you what to do?

The answer is that I don’t.

Despite my menopause certifications (5 and counting), my women’s health coach certificate, and my years of working with women in the menopause transition.

Instead I help you explore your own experience.

And apply a simple approach to improving it.

When my mother-in-law recently asked how my "menopause" was going, I could honestly say I'm doing well.

Though I've felt perimenopausal hormone changes for nearly a decade, I've continuously adapted and learned (completing six different menopause courses and devouring countless books has certainly helped!).

The keys for me?

Attitude, adaptability, awareness—and clarity about HOW I want to live in 20-30 years.

My favourite tool - paying attention.

When I know how I’m feeling, and can see how my actions and my cycle are contributing I can adapt.

For example. Lately I’ve found that my hips get super stiff and uncomfortable. Generally this is worse at the end of my menstrual cycle (I know this because I track it). End of my cycle is when oestrogen and progesterone are at their lowest so joints can feel more stiff as a result.

But also, my mood is different and I might not be drinking enough water, or moving in the same way.

So my experiment was to stretch more, as my increased strength training was definitely increasing the tightness in my legs, and to hydrate well, and I added an omega 3 supplement for a couple of months too.

And now that hip stiffness is really reduced. It can fire up when I walk a long way, or lift heavy without stretching for a few days but is easy to manage with a stretch before bed!

Tracking helps. Paying attention and taking empowered action helps.

Finding your own way is magic!
